Rally Obedience is the latest up-and-coming new dog sport, and one in which you can compete and earn American Kennel Club titles, just like obedience and agility.
It is a cross between formal obedience and canine agility. Like agility, the judge sets up a course and places signs which direct the handler and dog around the course in a particular order. Once given the go-ahead, the handler/dog team is on their own to complete the course without any other instructions from the judge. Rally-O can be used to prepare your dog for formal obedience as most of the exercises are ones that people use while preparing to show in the obedience ring.
Rally Obedience is also Paws Abilities Dog Training newest class addition. We teach Rally-O following the guidelines of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers, but our classes should adequately prepare you and you dog to compete in any venue. Find out more at www.apdt.com.
It is also loads of fun! Scoring of Rally-O even allows for the dog handler team to earn 3 points more than a perfect score, providing the dog and handler both appear to be having FUN! Be careful, you can also lose an additional 3 points for being bored/boring. You are allowed to talk to your dog and interact with them through out the entire course. You will learn to how to have your dogs walk in a formal heel position, automatic sits, finish (dog swings back to heel position from front), formal re-call (dog comes and sits straight in front of you). In general you and your dog learn to perform with a great deal more precision than you have had to up to this point.
Currently we offer Level 1 and Level 2 Rally-O classes. Dogs enrolled in Rally Obedience should have passed their CGC test or have permission from the instructor.
